1: Wednesday, October 15, 2008: Departure
Our journey begins with our transatlantic flight across the
Atlantic Ocean to Berlin, Germany. IF
Day
2: Thursday, October 16, 2008: Berlin, Wittenberg
Upon arrival in Berlin we meet our tour manager and coach driver.
A local guide will take us on an orientation tour, including
the Berlin Wall Museum and Checkpoint Charlie before we depart
for Wittenberg our home for the next two nights. IF/D
Day
3: Friday, October 17, 2008: Wittenberg
After breakfast we take a guided tour will begin with seeing
the church where Luther posted his 95 Theses. Although the original
door was destroyed in a fire, the replica has all 95 Theses
in bronze, which is magnificent. Next we'll tour the Lutherhalle
(Luther House) Museum. In 1508, when Martin Luther came to Wittenberg,
he lived here with other Augustinian Monks. We will have the
afternoon and evening free to explore the city where it all
began! B

4: Saturday, October 18, 2008: Eisleben, Erfurt, Eisenach
Our
first stop this morning is in Eisleben to visit the house where
Luther was born and the house where he died. Then we continue
on to Erfurt, where a local guide will lead us on a guided walking
tour of Erfurt, ending with a wonderful organ concert. We will
see the Augustinian Monastery, where Luther lived for several
years and have a chance to explore the shops along the Merchant’s
Bridge, wander around the old town or enjoy some good German
coffee and cake before ending the day in Eisenach, where we
will stay for two nights. B/D

5: Sunday, October 19, 2008: Eisenach
This morning we visit Wartburg Castle where Luther took refuge
after a fake kidnapping staged by his friend and protector,
Frederick the Wise. Seeing the very room where Martin Luther
translated the New Testament is a thrilling experience. We will
also have some free time possibly to visit the Bach Haus before
enjoying free time. Dinner is on our own tonight. B

6: Monday, October 20, 2008: Worms, Heidelberg
We
start early this morning en route to Worms the site of the Worms
Debates (Diet of Worms), now a park, with a plaque commemorating
the Diet of Worms, the Reformation Monument, St. Peters, and
the Church of the Holy Trinity. Our guide will also share about
another Reformer, William Tyndale, who finished his printing
of the English Bible in Worms, escaping persecution in England.
We then continue on Heidelberg a gorgeous town on the Neckar
River. We’ll have a walking tour of the Old Town, the
famous Stone Bridge over the Neckar River and take the tram
up to the Heidelberg Castle. B/D
Day
7: Tuesday, October 21, 2008: Bern, Lausanne
We continue south today into Switzerland and the land of Calvin.
Our first stop is in for a walking tour in the charming Swiss
Capital including a visit to the Bear Pits. We also will learn
how Bern followed Zurich’s lead not only in breaking away
from Catholicism, but also in cracking down on the Anabaptists.
Then we continue on to Lausanne on the northern shores of Lake
Geneva. B/D

8: Wednesday, October 22, 2008: Geneva, Lausanne
We take a short drive along the shores of Lake Geneva today
to Geneva, the “City of Calvin”. We will begin at
the Reformation Wall, followed by a visit to the Reformation
Museum in the beautiful historic quarter. This Museum paints
a comprehensive picture of the Reformation from its origins
to the present day, using the latest museum technologies. We’ll
also have a guided tour of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The
afternoon will be free to explore the city further before we
return to Lausanne for a Swiss Fondue dinner tonight. B/D
Day
9: Thursday, October 23, 2008: Luzern, Zurich
Today
we head for the city of Ulrich Zwingli stopping en route in
Luzern where we have a chance to see the City Walls and famous
covered wooden bridges. The Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge)
is a symbol of Lucerne and you've seen pictures of it, but now
it's time for us to walk its planks. It originally dates back
to the 14th century. Close by is the Spreurerbrücke (Spreuer
Bridge), dating from 1408. You'll view the ornate patrician
houses along the cobbled streets. We continue on to Zurich,
for a walking tour with a local expert guide. Highlights will
include the Frauenkirche and the Grossmünster Cathedrals.
We’ll enjoy a farewell dinner at our hotel tonight. B/D
Day 10: Friday, October 24, 2008:
Return
Today we transfer to the Zurich airport for our return flight
home. B/IF
