the same departure point. (In flight meals)
Day
2: Berlin
Upon our early morning arrival in Berlin, Frank and Rowena Drinkhouse
will greet and escort us to our waiting deluxe, air-conditioned
motor coach. We will begin our visit to Berlin with a brief city
tour highlighting the three centers of Berlin, including stops
for photo opportunities. The west around Kurfuerstendamm Blvd
and Memorial Church, the new center around Potsdamer Square and
the east around Unter den Linden, Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz.
Tonight, we will have a special welcome dinner and orientation.
We'll spend our first overnight in Berlin. (IF/D)
Day
3: Berlin, Wittenberg
After breakfast we continue our sightseeing of Berlin with a visit
to the Pergamon Museum, where we'll see fabulous treasures. We'll
also have time to visit the KaDeWe department store, the continent’s
largest, before we travel later this afternoon to Wittenberg.
We begin our sightseeing tour with a visit to the inspiring Schlosskirche
(Castle Church), and the historic “Theses Doors.” It was here
in Wittenberg where Martin Luther’s 95 Theses were courageously
given to this prominent university town and to the world. We visit
the beautiful St. Mary’s Church where Luther preached and where
his children were baptized. We’ll marvel at the amazing detail
in the reformation theme altar painted by Lucas Cranach. Cranach
was a close friend of both Luther and Katie and his works will
stir our soul with the details, the richness of color and the
emotions. We will also tour the Lutherhalle (Luther House Museum).
In 1508, when Luther came to Wittenberg he stayed here with the
other Augustinian Monks. Later, Luther and his wife, Katharina
von Bora, raised six children here. Now this is home to the largest
collection of Reformation artifacts in the world. We’ll be able
to view some of Luther’s very own personal library, rare manuscripts,
early Bibles and some of the very pamphlets that Luther had printed,
stoking the fires of the Reformation! We'll spend two nights in
Wittenberg (B/D)
Day
4: Wittenberg
One of the highlights of this tour is the opportunity to join
in the annual “Luther Wedding” Reenactment Festivities. There
will be costumes, pageantry, speeches and the reenactment of Martin
& Katie’s wedding. This is one of Germany’s top ten cultural festivals.
The rest of the day is free to enjoy this very unique event. This
evening, we’ll have the privilege of attending the Wittenberg
English Ministry’s special Service of Marriage Celebration and
Renewal from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Castle Church. Couples all
over the world find inspiration for their own life together because
of their spiritual connection to both Jesus Christ and Martin
and Katie Luther. Let us know if you would like to participate
and we’ll get you registered. There’s no fee. We'll spend a second
night in Wittenberg. (B)
Day 5: Leipzig, Dresden
Our journey continues today as we travel to Leipzig, the region
of Sachsen, one of Europe’s flourishing trade and commercial centers
during the Middle Ages, and which became the center of resistance
to Communist rule just over a decade ago. Here we have the privilege
of visiting the Nickolaikirch (St. Nicholas Church), the home
of the faithful “Pray for Peace” Christians and the powerful force
that transformed Germany’s East and West. In 1989, thousands of
East Germans gathered by candlelight in this church to form a
human rights and pro-democracy demonstrations, that led to the
destruction of the infamous Berlin Wall and the dissolution of
East Germany. Another Leipzig highlight will be our visit to Thomaskirche
(St. Thomas Church) where Luther preached and Johann Sebastian
Bach performed and directed the famous St. Thomas Boys choir.
Music lovers may want to stop at the Bach Museum. The awesome
musical and intellectual heritage of Leipzig goes far beyond Bach.
It was here the Schiller wrote his immortal "Ode to Joy"
later to be adopted as the principal theme of Beethoven’s 9th
Symphony, written in Leipzig as well. Wagner was born here and
Mendelssohn founded the first German conservatory in this talented
city. Even Goethe studied at the Leipzig University. Later this
afternoon we continue our journey to Dresden, where we'll spend
the night. (B/ D)
Day 6: Dresden
After breakfast we will begin our sightseeing tour of Dresden.
A local city guide will join our group today to show us the Old
City of Dresden, including the Semper Opera, the court Church,
and the Zwinger Gallery. We’ll also view the Frauenkirche, the
most important Protestant Church in pre-war Germany, and finally
rebuilt stone by stone, after being heavily bombed in World War
II. Located in the former East Germany, Dresden was not able to
rebuild as quickly as its Western neighbors. Nevertheless, it
is currently undergoing the most ambitious restoration in all
of Europe. The exceptional artistic and architectural heritage
makes Dresden one of the most prestigious cultural centers of
Europe. This afternoon we’re treated to a boat ride on the lovely
Elbe. We'll have a second overnight in Dresden (B/D)
Day 7: Rothenburg
This morning we travel on to Rothenburg, a well-preserved medieval
city, with ramparts, a city gate and town hall. Perhaps the most
famous town on the “Romantic Road”, Rothenburg is indeed a jewel.
It is a nearly intact medieval walled-city without a single modern
building within. A local city guide will take us back in time
with a glimpse into the Middle Ages. A visit will be made to Jakobskirche
(Church of St. James) with its splendid interior of Gothic design
and noteworthy altars, and then we'll explore the Marktplatz with
its Rathaus, whose older section dates to the 13th century. A
visit to Kathe Wolfahrt’s Christmas Village will tempt anyone
who loves Christmas. We'll spend the night in Rothenburg (B/D)
Day
8: Bavarian Alps and Castles
Today
we continue along the “Romantic Road” past the quaint and medieval
towns of Dinkelsbuhl and Nordlingen as we make our way into the
heart of Bavaria and Alpine villages. In route, we’ll stop to
visit the Wieskirche, “The Church on the Meadow”.We will finish
our exciting day with our arrival in Oberammergau, home to the
world famous Passion Play, depicting the story of Christ, acted
out for hundreds of years by the villagers. We’ll check
into our hotel for the first of two nights and have a delicious
dinner, followed by a stroll through the village. (B/D)
Day
9: Oberammergau
Today is the highlight of the tour, the world
famous Passion Play, which has been regularly performed since
Whitsun 1633. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months
of dying and suffering from the plague, the people of Oberammergau
took a vow to perform the "Play of the Suffering, Dying and
Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. In
the afternoon and evening we will be watching the performance
of the play, with excellent, pre-reserved seats. Almost half of
the inhabitants of the town perform in the play on the large open-air
stage. (B/L/D)
Day
10: Munich
Today we will travel to Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Upon arrival,
we’ll take an orientation tour of the main sights of Munich. We’ll
drive by the Olympic Stadium, Nymphenburg Castle, the New and
Old Pinakothek, Deutsches Museum and we’ll take a walk to Frauenkirche,
the New City Hall, Marienplatz and the famous “Glockenspiel”.
This afternoon, we’ll visit the famous “Hofbrauhaus”. There will
be free time for shopping also. Tonight we celebrate the conclusion
of our tour with a traditional Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.
Time to reminisce about the places visited and the new friends
we’ve made along the way. Overnight in Munich (B/D)
Day 11: Departure Day
Our motor coach takes us to Munich airport for our return flight
home.

the leading roles. There is also an important Introduction
by Otto Huber, Deputy Director of the Play who explains the
