A warm welcome to our new readers! In
our last issue, we focused on the Oberammergau
Passion Play, next taking place
in 2010. The committee is behind schedule
in awarding tickets, so if you want to book
a tour, it's not too late.
The latest estimate for confirmation of tickets
is mid-June (but that's not definite). You
can either join one of our scheduled departures
(see details below) or we can organize a group
tour (some dates still available).
We've
also released our 2009
Reformation Trails tour, as well as the brand-new
Calvin
Celebration Tour (to celebrate Calvin's
500 year anniversary) and our new line of tours
for independent travelers.
If you would like tour brochures, call 1-800-303-5534
or send us an e-mail
with your name and address and
which brochures you'd like and we'll send
them out.
NEW! Scroll down to the
bottom of the newsletter to take our photo quiz.
Winner will receive a surprise gift.
May
the Lord fill you with hope and encouragement
as you seek Him.
Many

 |
| Calvin
Statue in the Reformation Museum in
Geneva |
2009
is Calvin's 500th anniversary and
you are invited on a special tour to celebrate
his life and achievements. Born on July
10, 1509, John
Calvin
was one of the most influential men of the
Reformation movement. In 1536, he published
"The Institutes of the Christian Religion"
which was then, and is still today, considered
the most comprehensive single volume written
on Reform theology.
Beginning
in Paris, we'll visit his birthplace
in Noyon, Orleans, Giverny, Versailles,
Rheims, Strasbourg, Bern, Geneva and Chillon
Castle. During the tour you will also have
opportunity to fellowship with local believers
along the way.

What
about the dollar? |
|
This
year has been a challenge with the value of the
dollar falling sharply. According to the
Financial
Forecast Center, the tide will turn reasonably
soon and start to get back to better rates, which
is good news. Europe is still a wonderful place
to visit!

My
husband & I just returned from a Reformation
tour led by Gordon Hoffert. We just wanted
to tell you that it was an incredible experience...one
that we will forever remember as a highlight of
our lives! Gordon's insight,
warmth, wisdom and spiritual maturity added even
more to the depth and fun of our tour. He
was absolutely wonderful, and we just wanted to
commend him to you! Thank you so much for
a life-changing experience. Carolyn
Dear
Rowena: I thought I would email you and tell
you what a remarkable trip we had to Bavaria. The
trip was a great success. Thank you for
all your preparations, research, and kindness. Linda |

History of the Passion Play
|
|

The
history of the Oberammergau Passion Play dates
back to the middle of the Thirty Years War.
In 1633, after months of suffering from the
Bubonic Plague, the people of Oberammergau took
a vow to perform the "Play of the Suffering,
Dying and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ"
every ten years if they were spared. Miraculously
from that point on they all survived and true
to their promise, the first performance was
in 1634.
